RABOBANK UTRECHT, EMPLOYEES AND THEIR SPECIAL MORNING RITUALS Utrecht, 2011
Right after I graduated in 2010 I got this phone call from Qkunst, a company that brings young creatives and companies together in order to mix those worlds more easily. One of their employees attended the HKU graduation exposition that year and saw an interesting link between my illustration style and a specific conceptual request from the Rabobank. Curious as I am, I took the project with both my hands and visited the Chamber of Commerce that very same week in orde to be able to send my invoice later on. All of a sudden I had my own company!
The Rabobank Headquarters in Utrecht asked me to make a design to decorate a 60 foot long glass wall in their bank office, and I almost immediately decided to use employees’ private lives as my content: the wall became a big timeline that displayed the morning rituals of several employees. On top of the mural I also made this newspaper in which I zoomed in on six of the employees. I interviewed them in their own homes and photographed them. I wrote, illustrated, and designed the newspaper myself.
This project in which they left my with a great deal of independence as well as a nice and clear briefing, was the perfect start for me and my professional career as an freelance graphic designer.
